Positions on Texas Eagle Forum Priorities
Education Issues
- CHALLENGES FACING THE DISTRICT: "The biggest challenge is the budget. The board needs stronger financial experience and must prioritize teacher pay and retention. Great teachers create great classrooms. CISD also needs a more collaborative, transparent board. My PTO board experience and NACD Directorship Certification prepare me to work with diverse stakeholders toward shared goals."[1]
- SUPPORTING TEACHERS: "CISD can better support teachers by restoring discipline, reducing unnecessary paperwork, protecting planning time, and providing strong classroom resources and administrative support. The district must also prioritize meaningful raises through effective budgeting and stop wasting money on pet projects that do not directly support teachers, classrooms, or student learning."[1]
- PREVENTING BUDGET SHORTFALLS: "CISD needs to end the appearance of “buddy contracts” and return to competitive RFPs. Legal expenses have quadrupled while the board relies on its private attorney. Major contracts should be openly bid, compared, and justified. Stronger procurement, transparency, and disciplined budgeting are essential to preventing future shortfalls."[1]
- ON SPECIAL EDUCATION: "I will use my advocacy experience in oil and gas to fight in Austin for funding that serves all students fairly."[1]
- PARENTAL RIGHTS: "Government should recognize parents as the primary decision-makers in their children’s health and education, while also ensuring that every child is protected, safe, and given access to a quality education."[1]
- ON SCHOOL VOUCHERS: "The greatest challenge for Texas education will be adjusting to vouchers and the funding they pull from public schools. Districts will have to compete for families by making sure students are getting a strong education, teachers are supported, and parents see real value in keeping their children in public schools."[1]
Protect Childhood Innocence
- SHARED THE BOOK, THEY CAME FOR OUR SCHOOLS, on social media as part of her summer reading list. Summary of the book: "The urgent, revelatory story of how a school board win for the conservative right in one Texas suburb inspired a Christian nationalist campaign now threatening to undermine public education in America...They Came for the Schools pulls back the curtain on the powerful forces driving this crusade—often fought under the banner of parental rights—to ban books, rewrite curricula, and limit rights for minority and LGBTQ students."[1][2]
- STATED, "Parents should be able to trust that school materials are age appropriate and suitable for students. Material should not be allowed simply because it is labeled educational if it would otherwise be considered harmful to minors."[1]
